In 1265, Northampton was home to 1 of only 3 universities in England but was shut down by King Henry III due to fears it would cause damage to the attractiveness of nearby Oxford! It took 740 years for a university to once again be established in Northampton in 2005, followed by the new build Waterside Campus, which opened in 2018 with state of the art facilities. Located in an ancient market town steeped in social, political and industrial history, UON has been rapidly building a reputation for its innovative teaching and learning style that has ‘de-formalised’ and personalised the higher education experience for its students, leading to recognition through teaching awards. UON had over 12,500 students in 2021 and offers over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as providing significant research output. The university is a leading force in adding value to society through a number of social impact projects woven into curriculum. The Faculty of Business and Law contains the ETH -Events, Tourism and Hospitality Team which covers a range of topics from sustainable tourism and destination management to innovation and hospitality/beer tourism!
