He achieved his PhD in chemistry in 2001 at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana. Since 2001 he is employed at the Slovenian institute of hop research and brewing as head of Department for agrochemistry and brewing and is associate professor for analytical chemistry at the University of Maribor and assistant professor for Food technology of plant origin at the University of Ljubljana. His research interests is brewing technology from raw materials to the final product, research in hop growing and determining the brewing value of hop genotypes, including beer sensorics.. He is a member of the two editorial boards and acted as a guest editor of special editions of scientific journals. He was a mentor/co-mentor of 5 PhD and 30 BSc or MSc students. Till now he has 91 scientific articles, 6 scientific chapters in monographs and was an active participant on more than 100 international scientific symposia and a co-author of 11 new hop varieties.
