Markus Raupach began working as a photographer, journalist and media professional for breweries, hotels and restaurants soon after founding his media agency in 1998. Since 2005, the Bamberger has also published over 50 books, including brewery guides for Franconia, Bavaria, Saxony, Thuringia and Berlin, as well as the chronicle of the German Brewers’ Association for its 150th anniversary in 2021. Numerous events that he has organised since 2006 led to the idea of a beer academy, which he realised in 2013 with the founding of the German Beer Academy, for which he was awarded the “Golden Beer Idea 2015”. In 2019, he received this award again, this time for the realisation of his idea of a “Walk of Beer” in Forchheim. In 2023, he was made an honorary knight in the Brotherhood of Belgian Brewers.
Markus Raupach is a beer, brandy and cheese sommelier, experienced judge (e.g. European Beer Star, World Beer Cup, Brussels Beer Challenge, World Beer Awards, Brazilian Beer Contest, Champion Beer of Britain, Copa Cervezas de América, Meininger Craft Beer Award, Suomen Paras Olut Helsinki, Sahdin SM Finland, Austrian Beer Challenge, Birra dell’Anno Rimini, KuBo Award Bolzano, Golden Bohemia Prague, Greek Beer Awards, Rosglavpivo Beer Competition Moscow, Greater Poland Beer Cup, Brasil Beer Cup, Kraft Roku Poland, Aro Rojo Mexico), member of the British Guild of Beer Writers and the North American Guild of Beer Writers, honoured with the Bamberg Beer Order, board member of Bierland Oberfranken, Chairman of the Association of Bavarian Fine Spirits Sommeliers and President of the German Beer Consumers Union (GBCU). In 2017, industry representatives voted Markus Raupach one of the 50 most important beer personalities in Germany. Markus Raupach has also been a lecturer at the Genussakademie Bayern since 2018.
