Nils is trained brewer and maltster holding a diploma in biotechnology (focus brewing science) and a PhD (focus bioanalytics) from TU Berlin. After accumulating sufficient skills in brewing and drinking beer he has developed deep interest in analyzing molecules that make this beverage taste either terribly good or horribly stale. Nils is currently in charge of the VLB Research Institute for Raw Materials and Beverage Analysis (FIRGA) at VLB. FIRGA comprises a progressive contract laboratory (accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018) for beer and spirit analysis, as well a group of scientists dedicated to research in the field of beverage quality, analysis, and method development.
