After gaining bachelor and PhD degrees in chemistry, Paul joined the brewing industry in 1990. Since then he has worked in a variety of research-oriented roles, including as a principal scientist for Heineken. Today Paul is focused on the development of distilling education for students and professionals alike at Oregon State University and continues to explore hop chemistry both in lab and via computational chemistry.
Paul has published more than 60 papers, four patents and three books, and has been the proud recipient of the IBD’s Cambridge Prize and the ASBC’s Eric Kneen award, both for hope-related research. He also holds an MBA and the IBD’s diploma in brewing.
